چکیده

As previously described (Mann, Greer, Perret, and McLean, 1960), a human volunteer was experimentally infected with a West Australian strain of trachoma virus. After the successive appearance of conjunctival hyperaemia, pre-auricular adenitis, tarsal follicles, epithelial keratitis, papillary hypertrophy, and pannus, treatment was commenced on the 31st day after infection. This report completes the experiment with a brief account of the treatment and cure of the patient who was followed up for 91 months.

The Effect of Trachoma Virus Vaccine on the Course of Experimental Trachoma Infection in Blind Human Volunteers

The TRIC-Taiwan-1-1958 strain of elementary body virus isolated from a trachoma patient on Taiwan has been proven capable of reproducing trachoma by experimental inoculation of six human volunteers. Virus material derived from the seventh passage in embryonated hen eggs caused the clinical picture of trachoma in every inoculation, even at the dilution of 10(-4) of infected yolk sacs (approximat...

A report on the attempted isolation of the virus of trachoma.

THE consensus of opinion at the present time is that trachoma is a virus disease, being due to the agent first described by Halberstaedter and Prowazek (1907), who produced an experimental infection by inoculating the conjunctivae of apes with material from a human case of trachoma. Both the apes and the human cases from which the material came showed characteristic inclusions in the cytoplasm ...

Experimental trachoma produced by a West Australian virus.

RECENT ophthalmic surveys in Western Australia by Mann (1954a, 1954b, 1956), with the support of the Public Health Department and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, have shown that trachoma is the greatest single cause of ocular morbidity and blindness over large areas of rural Australia. The first successful culture in Australia of the causative agent was accomplished in Perth by Perret and Mann...

Isolation of virus from embryonate eggs inoculated with material from a case of trachoma in Western Australia.

THE first convincing isolation of the trachoma virus was made by T'ang, Chang, Huang, and Wang (1957) using embryonate eggs: their findings were confirmed by Collier and Sowa (1958), who also showed that clinical trachoma followed inoculation of a human volunteer with isolated virus. Isolation of the virus from patients with trachoma in Australia has not previously been reported although the di...
